Adult Education Teacher (English as a Second Language)

About This Role

This teaching position is for an Adult Education Teacher specializing in English as a Second Language (ESL) within the Utica Community Schools Community Education Center. The program serves adult students aged 18 and older, focusing on high-quality instruction tailored for adult learners in a classroom setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality instruction that supports and aligns with the State of Michigan and the district's educational vision and mission
• Teach English as a Second Language courses using instructional methods geared toward the adult learner in a classroom setting
• Facilitate an environment that fosters the learning of all students
• Utilize educational technology to support student's instruction and learning
• Develop and deliver daily lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies to ensure learners meet or exceed learning targets
• Analyze real-time data pertaining to student learning
• Track student progress and communicate to students and administration
• Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with students, peers, and community
• Follow policies and procedures outlined by the Supervisor
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Valid Michigan Elementary or Secondary Teaching Certificate
• Demonstrated interest/experience in working with adult students
• Technology proficient
• Ability to foster an effective learning environment for multiple age and skill levels
• Ability to implement multiple teaching methods, styles, and materials
• Ability to work cooperatively with other teaching and support staff

Nice to have:

• English, ELA or ESL endorsement

• Schedule: Evening shifts available, Monday / Wednesday 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., plus prep time
