About the role

Duties
The selectee will serve as an administrative Specialist with responsibility to respond to inquiry and administrative problems brought to the Director's attention by office chiefs.
Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:

  1. Developing and implementing broad Coast Guard operation policies.
  2. Screening all correspondence prepared for the Director’s signature for clarity, completeness of reply, and grammatical and procedural correctness.
  3. Following up on various personnel and related actions such as OER’s and performance evaluations to ensure evaluations are completed in a timely manner.
  4. Utilizing the Coast Guard Standard Work Station in order to accomplish office goals.
  5. Arranging travel plans for the Director to ensure proper arrangements are made for travel.
  6. Training other administrative staff within the directorate to perform duties as to the correct procedures when submitting correspondence for signature.

Qualifications
AT THE GS-09: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the federal service.
Specialized experience includes: Follows up to ensure actions are completed; arranges travel plans for the Director to ensure proper arrangements are made for travel; train other administrative staff within the directorate to perform duties as to the correct procedures when submitting correspondence for signature and utilizes the Coast Guard Standard Work Station in order to accomplish office goals.
OR
Two full years of graduate education
OR
A master's degree.
A master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet Federal qualification requirements if you can show that your foreign education is comparable to education received in accredited educational institutions in the United States.
