Adjunct Spanish Professor

About This Role

This adjunct faculty position in the Foreign Language Department involves teaching Elementary and Intermediate level Spanish language courses. The role offers an opportunity for a hybrid schedule and requires collaboration with other faculty members.

Responsibilities

• Teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish in the day or evening in the summer, spring or fall semesters in person and live online (Zoom)
• Perform other duties expected of adjunct faculty
• Collaborate and work successfully with other full-time and adjunct faculty in the Foreign Language department
• Provide extra and co-curricular opportunities for Spanish language students
• Participate in the planning and administration of all departmental initiatives
• Participate in on-campus events promoting languages
• Complete ACTFL and/or other departmental training

Requirements

• M.A. degree in Spanish or an MA in a related discipline with at least 18 hours of graduate work in Spanish as required by JCCC HLC criteria
• Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish courses
• Demonstrated excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of using technology in the classroom
• Demonstrated ability to teach online using Zoom or a platform like Zoom
• Demonstrated 2 years teaching experience at the post-secondary level and/or 4 years of high school teaching experience

Nice to have:

• Demonstrated understanding of the climate of post-secondary institutions
• Demonstrated knowledge of ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages
• Documentation from ACTFL (OPI) of advanced mid or higher in Spanish
• Ability to teach Chinese, German, Japanese or French with HLC credentials
• PhD in Spanish
• Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish language courses
