3D Artist

About This Role

This role involves developing realistic 3D models and virtual environments for innovative training simulations used by Defense, Federal Police, and Customs and Excise. You will work within XR-Labs, collaborating closely with a senior 3D Artist and the XR Labs development team, contributing to the technical realization of XR scenarios.

Responsibilities

• Model, texture, and optimize 3D objects, environments, and props
• Prepare assets for use in XR environments (Unity)
• Perform 3D scans (with a 3D scanner) and process raw scan data
• Support the setup of simulations and technical testing moments
• Assist with simulation guidance during training sessions
• Document models, workflows, and best practices
• Provide support to interns or students performing technical tasks
• Take an active role in the development and guidance of exercise and simulation moments

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of 3D modeling (Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, etc.)
• Ability to collaborate efficiently within a multidisciplinary team
• Eager to learn and follow technological evolutions (XR, 3D scanning)
• Work accurately and have an eye for detail
• Ability to process feedback and improve iteratively
• Comfortable in a technical, innovative work environment
• Experience with 3D modeling and texturing using Blender, Maya, Character Creator, Substance Painter, or similar 3D software
• Create high-quality, detailed 3D models of characters, vehicles, props, weapons, and environments for use in XR training simulators
• Develop realistic textures and materials using PBR workflows to enhance the visual fidelity and immersion of XR simulations
• Prepare, export, and integrate Blender assets into Unity, ensuring correct scale, pivot points, materials, and naming conventions
• Basic knowledge of PBR materials and optimization for real-time environments
• Optimize models, topology, and texture sizes (LODs, poly counts, UV layouts) to ensure smooth performance across different XR platforms
• Build immersive environments, buildings, and props that accurately reflect real-world locations and scenarios encountered by special forces and the police
• Rapidly prototype and iterate on 3D assets and environments to refine the training experience
• Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation of asset pipelines, naming conventions, and processes to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team and with partners
• Interest in XR applications (VR/AR/MR)
• Dutch or French
