ZGT is a top-clinical hospital in the Twente region, providing medical-specialist care for approximately 390,000 residents. As there is no academic hospital in the region, the nearest is over an hour away. ZGT, along with two other STZ hospitals (MST and Deventer Ziekenhuis) in the Twente and Salland regions, traditionally offers a comprehensive range of care, significantly contributing to the availability and preservation of broad medical-specialist services in the region. ZGT collaborates proactively with other healthcare providers to offer the best regional care, including working with MST and Deventer Ziekenhuis to jointly meet quality and efficiency demands for sustainable regional healthcare. Collaboration with the University of Twente also allows the Twente region to distinguish itself in medical-technological innovation. ZGT possesses unique expertise in several areas, maintained and developed through research and training. ZGT excels in three focus areas through innovation, taking a leading role in the region. These focus areas align with the specific demographic characteristics of the region's population and the long-standing expertise built in these fields. We continue to invest in these focus areas to qualitatively differentiate ourselves from other providers within and beyond the region. Our focus areas include: Metabolic syndrome, specifically focusing on the treatment of complex diabetes and morbid obesity (including bariatric surgery). Vulnerable elderly, with a multidisciplinary approach to geriatrics, geriatric traumatology, elderly psychiatry, and neurology, physically concentrated at the Almelo location (elderly plaza). Oncological care, in the areas of prostate cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, breast cancer, skin cancer, and bladder cancer (cystectomy).
