The Wohlfahrtswerk für Baden-Württemberg is one of the largest elderly care providers in the state. The current foundation dates back to Queen Katharina of Württemberg. Around 200 years ago, the monarch, with her initiative, promoted self-help and laid the foundation for a new social policy. The two essential tasks have remained unchanged over the centuries: to maintain social services and facilities, and to stimulate, test, and implement innovations in the social field. As one of the major providers of elderly care in Baden-Württemberg, we care for a total of around 2,000 people. At 19 locations, we offer the full spectrum of services for the elderly: from nursing homes to assisted living and senior housing communities, to support for living at home. There are also special care areas for young people. With around 1,700 employees, we are a large and reliable employer in the social sector. As a foundation under civil law, we pursue exclusively non-profit purposes and are denominationally unaffiliated. We are a member of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband. According to our foundation mandate, we are innovators in the social sector and have developed, tested, and introduced numerous new ideas. The Wohlfahrtswerk pioneered many pioneering care and housing options for older people: for example, the first assisted living facility in Germany and the first day care center in southern Germany. We regularly participate in scientific research projects and have our own department for research and development. In 2013, 2016, and 2022, we were honored for our commitment with the TOP 100 innovation award.
