Williamsburg Baptist Church is a historic church, located in the heart of Williamsburg’s colonial district and the College of William and Mary. For more than 190 years we have witnessed to historic Baptist principles such as religious liberty, the autonomy of the local church, and the separation of church and state. Today, we seek to be a anomaly to the status quo, renewing and restoring what it means to be “church” in our social context. Our vision is to follow Christ together, worshiping, learning, and extending God’s radical welcome to all as a beloved community. Therefore we seek to be an open and inclusive community of faith, seeking God’s holistic peace’s through justice and love. WBC engages Scripture and tradition with a harmonious blend of reverence and critical thinking. In response to God’s story of justice and liberation, we seek social justice, environmental sustainability, multifaith cooperation and understanding, companioning the poor and marginalized. We are anti-racist, inter-generational, pro-LGBTQ+, and moving toward a more congregational makeup that reflects the diversity of our community and the sphere of God’s reign.
