Wellensteyn International GmbH & Co. KG is a German textile company based in Norderstedt. It was founded in the 1940s by Adolf Wuttke and is now led by Thomas Wuttke in the third generation. The founder, Adolf Wuttke, was a Hamburg welding wire dealer who sold robust parkas for shipyard workers alongside mechanical equipment for deep-sea research. Thomas Wuttke, the founder's grandson, joined the company in 1986. In the 1990s, he developed the Wellensteyn logo, a white cross on a red background similar to the Swiss coat of arms, and began designing fashionable jackets. These jackets are now available from 1500 retailers nationwide. The company produces in China. In 2017, the Federal Cartel Office imposed a fine of 10.9 million Euros on Wellensteyn and Peek & Cloppenburg (Düsseldorf) for illegal price fixing. The violations occurred between 2008 and 2013.
