We are Waterschap Zuiderzeeland. Our working area is located on the bottom of the former Zuiderzee. On the bottom of our low-lying country. From the Lemstervaart to Almere and from Urk to the Drontermeerdijk. Here you will find our treatment plants, pumping stations and dikes. With these, we work towards clean and sufficient water. And we ensure that people can live in safety, in the cities and in the countryside. That may seem self-evident, but it is not. In the previous century, our polders were designed, won and reclaimed. Before that, the Zuiderzee was here. Now we keep our new land afloat and protect the polders against floods. That is and remains urgently necessary. Because the changing climate causes increasingly pronounced extremes. It is getting warmer, the sea level is rising, and it is raining and blowing harder and more often. That is why we are constantly working to keep the amount of water at the right level. So that there is not too little, but also not too much water. And we ensure that wastewater is purified. So that it is valuable again, and flows back clean into our ditches and canals. We think ahead. About sustainability and generating energy from our water, for example.
