Thyssengas GmbH, based in Dortmund, is one of the leading gas transmission network operators in Germany. The company looks back on 100 years of history and great expertise: in 1921, the predecessor company built the first gas transmission network in Germany and pioneered many areas for the entire industry. Thyssengas's infrastructure is mainly located in North Rhine-Westphalia. Thyssengas plays a significant role in the energy supply of many important industrial companies and the heat supply for millions of people in northwest Germany. The company transports around six billion cubic meters of natural gas annually through its 4,200-kilometer underground transmission network – about one-tenth of the consumption in Germany. Natural gas is delivered at more than 1,000 offtake points to downstream networks, industrial customers, and power plants. Thyssengas thus supplies around 20 percent of the population in Germany. Thyssengas is connected to national and international transmission network operators. Furthermore, Thyssengas is connected to important storage facilities in Germany. To ensure comprehensive and user-friendly supply in the future, Thyssengas is expanding the network as needed. Thyssengas sees itself as an active part of the energy transition and, with its transmission network, forms the backbone for the transformation of the energy system into a CO2-neutral world. Hydrogen will play a key role in decarbonization. Thyssengas is active in numerous future projects and initiatives on the topic of hydrogen. The company is also investing in innovative solutions in the areas of digitalization and artificial intelligence. Thyssengas employs around 390 employees at a total of seven locations.
