About Theaterhaus Jena gGmbH

The Theaterhaus Jena is unique in the German-speaking theater landscape. For 30 years, new aesthetic forms of expression and formats have been developed here through a collective process. The institution feels obliged to advance democratic work processes and to produce political and entertaining theater for the city and beyond. A diverse ensemble, collaboration with authors, artists in residence, international co-productions, piece developments, and numerous discourse programs form the basic building blocks for this. Artistic and supporting trades work at eye level in constant exchange, shaping and transforming themselves and the Theaterhaus anew every day. In 2024, the house received the Theaterpreis des Bundes. With the 24/25 season, it introduced the principle of the "Open Call," where two productions per season are awarded to teams that have applied anonymously with a concept.
