Welcome to the Town of Herndon, the third largest town in the Commonwealth of Virginia and home to 23,000 residents. Located approximately 23 miles west of Washington, DC, the Town of Herndon is a centrally located local government with a population of over 23,000, the third largest in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Each of the town’s 268 employees is pivotal in providing exceptional customer service to our community. The town provides imperative services to the residents of Herndon such as public safety, community development, recreational activities, public works efforts and approximately 9.3 million square feet of commercial and office floor space that supports approximately 25,000 jobs. The Town Council is the governing body elected by the residents of Herndon. This body creates policies for the administration of the town. The mayor and the six members of the Town Council are elected for two-year terms. The Town Manager is appointed by the Town Council and works with the town’s professional staff to direct town operations – encouraging the workforce to provide superior service to all constituents.
