About Svenska Turistföreningen

We at STF want you to discover Sweden. We know there is much more to discover off the beaten path, deeper in the forest, and higher up in the mountains. This has been our approach since our founding in Uppsala in 1885. STF is a non-profit member organization with deep roots in Swedish nature and cultural tourism. Our knowledge of Sweden and our passionate commitment to our unique environments are part of our heritage to manage and pass on. Key facts about STF: STF was founded in 1885 in Uppsala as a non-profit association to promote tourism in Sweden. Since then, the association has grown to around 255,000 members. "Discover Sweden" is the overarching theme for the association's offerings in nature and cultural tourism. STF also engages in advocacy on issues related to nature and cultural tourism in Sweden. The organization operates nearly 350 hostels, hotels, mountain stations, and mountain huts from the southernmost part of Skåne to the northernmost part of Norrland, from city centers to roadless areas in the Swedish mountains. Locally, activities are organized in 65 local associations (districts), and internationally, STF collaborates with the hostel organization HI Hostels. STF publishes the member magazine Turist.
