About Svenska kyrkan

The Church of Sweden has approximately 6.2 million members. The Church of Sweden's mission is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. The fundamental task of all congregations is to celebrate divine worship, conduct teaching, diaconia, and mission. The meeting, wherever one may be in life, is what the Church of Sweden wants to cherish. This can be in an individual conversation, in the commitment to international work, or in youth work at schools. The Church of Sweden is also present in many hospitals, in work with cultural encounters, and on-site during crises and disasters. We currently have approximately 22,000 employees across Sweden. Most work in congregational service, some at the diocesan level, and about 500 belong to the national level - the church chancellery in Uppsala.
