The Nordestão is a genuinely Potiguar company. It emerged from a seed planted by Leôncio Etelvino de Medeiros, a farmer and merchant who, in 1958, left the city of Cruzeta, in the Seridó region of Rio Grande do Norte, to establish himself in Natal. Here, he acquired five commercial points in the old public market in the city center. He was unknowingly starting a successful venture. Today, the Nordestão Group brings together seven active stores. The expansion has always been in sync with the city's growth. In six years – from 1972 to 1978 – the company opened four stores, an average of one store every eighteen months. The second store in the Nordestão network opened in 1975, in the Petrópolis neighborhood; in 1976, the third store was inaugurated in the Lagoa Nova neighborhood, and in 1978, the fourth store in the Cidade Jardim Neighborhood. With the growth of the North Zone, the company saw an opportunity to continue its expansion, opening its fifth store in 1981 in the Santa Catarina neighborhood and, nine years later, in 1990, its sixth store in the Igapó neighborhood. Its seventh store was inaugurated in 2008 in one of the most noble areas of our city, in the Tirol neighborhood. In addition to the seven stores, the Nordestão Group, which has 2,400 employees, has a central office, located in the Ribeira neighborhood, where the company's management and administrative sectors operate, and the Distribution Center, located on BR 101, at the entrance of Natal, responsible for supplying all stores.
