The Stiftung St. Franziskus introduces itself. For us, every person is defined by what they are. This includes their own abilities and possibilities, as well as a disability, the need for care in old age, or a difficult environment. Every individual is worthy of being attended to and having a perspective in life created for them. Against the backdrop of our Christian image of humanity, we, as a church foundation, particularly care for people who need help and lack perspective. This includes disabled and elderly people, as well as children and young people. We want to empower them to help themselves within the scope of their abilities. In doing so, we accompany, support, and care for them in our social institutions and services in southern Baden-Württemberg. The key is to be able to live self-determinedly as a full part of society – and to find personal happiness in life. From Monastery to Foundation. The charitable idea behind our work today dates back to the 19th century: in 1857, David Fuchs founded the Heiligenbronn Monastery as a "rescue institution" for orphaned and intellectually disabled children. At the request of the Sisters of St. Francis of Heiligenbronn, Dr. Walter Kasper, then Bishop of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, established the Stiftung St. Franziskus in March 1991. Today, the foundation is represented at 30 locations. Here we look after and support around 5,500 people, whether on an outpatient or inpatient basis, and employ around 2,400 employees and hundreds of volunteers.
