About Stiftung KBZO

The KBZO Foundation operates a variety of facilities for people with physical and multiple disabilities as a private foundation. Its activities include a Special Needs Educational and Counseling Center (SBBZ) with a boarding school and various types of schools in Weingarten, a primary school in Biberach, Sigmaringen, and Friedrichshafen, as well as school kindergartens in Weingarten, Biberach, and Sigmaringen, and at numerous other locations in the four districts of the Lake Constance-Upper Swabia region. In addition, there are housing options for adults with disabilities, including residential homes and supported living services, open assistance with family relief services, leisure and vacation activities, as well as short-term care services. Through the integration company KBZO Service und Dienste gGmbH and its participation in the Integrations-Werkstätten Oberschwaben (IWO gGmbH), the KBZO Foundation also offers diverse work and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. In 1968, the non-profit association "Hilfe für das körperbehinderte Kind e. V." (Help for the Physically Disabled Child) was founded on the initiative of parents of disabled children, and the first kindergarten and a school were established. Since 1988, the "Körperbehinderten-Zentrum Oberschwaben" has been a private foundation under civil law. Currently, the KBZO Foundation, across all locations, cares for, educates, trains, supports, nurses, and accompanies over 1500 people with disabilities. Around 1000 employees from various professional fields work here, supported by helpers in the Voluntary Social Year (FSJ), Federal Volunteer Service (BFD), internships, or volunteer work. This makes the KBZO Foundation one of the largest institutions for people with physical and multiple disabilities in Baden-Württemberg and the Federal Republic of Germany.
