About Stadtreinigung Hamburg

Through its business activities, SRH already makes a significant contribution to climate protection. We are guided by the five stages of the waste hierarchy of the EU Waste Framework Directive and are active in all areas: At the top is waste prevention, followed by preparation for reuse, recycling, recovery and, finally, disposal. With its facilities Müllverwertung Borsigstraße GmbH, Müllverwertung Rugenberger Damm GmbH & Co. KG and the Biogas- and Kompostwerk Bützberg, Stadtreinigung Hamburg is one of the largest producers of climate-friendly heat in and for Hamburg. In this way, we help to replace electricity and heat from fossil fuels. With the commissioning of Zentrum für Ressourcen und Energie GmbH, we will make further contributions to Hamburg's energy transition. For the protection of the environment and climate, we work to reduce our impact as much as possible: with well-thought-out concepts and innovative solutions. We are constantly reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of our plants, vehicles and buildings through efficiency measures and the use of new technologies. We are converting our fleet to alternative drives and supporting the development phase of new vehicles - since May 2020, for example, we have been testing a fully electric large street sweeper. We are carrying out extensive renovation and modernization measures on our buildings; we are currently undertaking a comprehensive energy modernization of our vehicle workshop at Bullerdeich.
