The city administration consists of five directorates and various staff units that support the City of Bern's executive council in fulfilling its tasks. The Directorates The Presidential Directorate fulfills various cross-sectional tasks, manages and coordinates the political planning of the executive council and holistic urban development. The Directorate for Security, Environment and Energy is responsible for the areas of security, protection, rescue, environmental protection, water and energy supply, and economic development. The focus of the Directorate for Education, Social Affairs and Sport is: kindergarten, primary school, childcare, youth, elderly, social assistance, integration, sport, health and addiction. The Directorate for Civil Engineering, Traffic and Urban Greenery is responsible for civil engineering infrastructure, urban drainage, traffic planning, green spaces in the city of Bern, official surveying, and waste disposal. The Directorate for Finance, Personnel and Information Technology primarily provides internal administrative services. It is responsible for finance, taxes, the properties of the City of Bern, personnel administration, as well as IT supply and materials for the city administration.
