About SPL EAU DU BASSIN RENNAIS

The City of Rennes and the Eau du Bassin Rennais Community (formerly the Mixed Union for the Production of Water of the Rennes Basin [SMPBR]) announced in January 2013 their wish to jointly launch a project to take back public management of the water service in their territory. These two communities had each delegated the production and distribution of drinking water to Veolia Eau as part of operating contracts that expired on March 31, 2015. This decision took the form of a Public Limited Company: the SPL Eau du Bassin Rennais. Since April 1, 2015, and through a 15-year public service delegation, the SPL Eau du Bassin Rennais: - Operates 12 water resources and 7 production plants, and thus produces drinking water for 470,000 inhabitants, - Currently distributes to subscribers in the towns of Rennes, Pacé, Vezin, Saint Gilles, Cesson-Sévigné, and Acigné. In all other towns located in the territory of the Eau du Bassin Rennais Community, the water produced in bulk by the SPL is sold to the operators responsible for distributing the water to their subscribers, until the end of the public service delegation contracts. It currently has 140 employees.
