About Sorosoro Ibaba Development Cooperative

Sorosoro Ibaba Development Cooperative (SIDC) was first established as Sorosoro Ibaba Farmers’ Association on March 19, 1969, led by Victoriano E. Barte as President and General Manager. Registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the association began with 59 members contributing 200 pesos each, totaling P 11,800.00 for a goods store offering basic commodities, poultry, and hog raising supplies. The association became Samahang Nayon ng Sorosoro Ibaba in 1972, initiating contract-growing activities. Its success attracted 500 members, qualifying it as a full-pledged cooperative. In November 1978, Samahang Nayon ng Sorosoro Ibaba, Inc. transformed into Sorosoro Ibaba Consumers’ Cooperative. Five years later, it registered with the Ministry of Agriculture as a development cooperative and was renamed Sorosoro Ibaba Development Cooperative, Inc. (SIDCI). In 1997, it became Sorosoro Ibaba Development Cooperative (SIDC). As of December 31, 2008, the cooperative had 5,964 regular members and 6,296 associate members, with projections for continued growth due to its successes and benefits to members and the community. Most members reside in Batangas City, but it also has members from nearby provinces including Laguna, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, Metro Manila, Bataan, and Nueva Ecija. SIDC currently employs 252 regular employees, most of whom are members of the cooperative.
