After World War II, Manaus was a village and did not yet have any petroleum product facilities. At that time, a visionary businessman named Isaac Sabbá imagined building a refinery in the city for the sale of gasoline, diesel, and kerosene. From the construction of the Manaus Refinery, one of Fogás's founders, Samuel Benchimol, had the idea to start an LP Gas distributor. Fogás was founded in 1956 by brothers Samuel, Israel, and Saul Benchimol. The first strategy to gain market leadership at the time was to start early, in the early morning with trucks full of LP Gas for sale (in the past, LP Gas was sold door-to-door). There were three trucks that delivered by neighborhood. The company's positioning was to grow in the Western Amazon market. The Porto Velho branch was the first to be built in 1970. For this, the company imported the first ship, the Fogás I, which transported LP Gas to Porto Velho, in Rondônia. Soon after, with the company's growth, Fogás needed to acquire two more ships. The Rio Branco branch in Acre was the second to be inaugurated in 1977. Boa Vista, the capital of the state of Roraima, was chosen as the location for the company's third branch. The inauguration was on June 23, 1995. On June 14, 2002, Fogás inaugurated the LP Gas filling terminal in Santarém, in the western part of the state of Pará.
