Scouting America, formerly Boy Scouts of America, is one of the largest Scouting organizations in the United States, with over 2.4 million youth participants and nearly one million adult volunteers. Founded in 1910, more than 110 million Americans have participated in its programs. Scouting America is part of the international Scout Movement and was a founding member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922. The organization aims to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through diverse outdoor activities, educational programs, and career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. For younger members, the Scout Method instills Scouting values like trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoor skills through activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking. Scouting America operates four high-adventure bases: Northern Tier, Philmont Scout Ranch, Sea Base, and Summit Bechtel Reserve. Traditional Scouting divisions include Cub Scouting for children in grades K-5, Scouts BSA for youth ages 11 to 17, and Venturing and Sea Scouting for young men and women ages 14 to 20.
