In the 1920s, Domenico Scappino conceived of a firm for silk garments and accessories that achieved maximum recognition in post-World War I Europe. A small, elegant city in Northern Italy was the birthplace of the first collections of ties and scarves, created with the help of the best silk textile manufacturers: Swiss, Italian, French, and English. Thus, each collection was carefully crafted. In those times, the sobriety of dress had a touch of distinction through rich textures and new color combinations. Scappino's designs quickly gained fame throughout Europe. The "Scappino Knot" By the early 1930s, Scappino had achieved such a reputation in Italy that His Highness the Prince of Piedmont chose the firm as the official supplier to the Royal House. During the years leading up to World War II, the "Scappino Knot" became popular: a triangular and decisively elegant knot. The fact that it was adopted by Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor, contributed to it being known as the "Scappino Knot or Windsor Knot." Since the early 1930s, Scappino had achieved such a reputation in Italy that His Highness the Prince of Piedmont chose the firm as the official supplier to the Royal House.
