Our journey began with humble beginnings founded by the late Mr. Toh Sue Bee in 1977 as a trading entity with an average annual turnover ranging from USD 400,000 to USD 1.2 million. In 1988, SB Group expanded from import and distribution to large-scale manufacturing of self-adhesive tapes, leveraging R&D efforts and expertise. By 1995, SB Group achieved leadership and recognition for quality in the ribbons and adhesive tapes industry in Malaysia and Asia, with its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur serving as a regional hub. In 1995, due to rapid growth in turnover and export activity, SB Group underwent an expansion program, opening its own factory building with a built-up area of about 100,000 sq. feet. This expansion propelled SB Group into the ranks of leading industry players in Asia, employing state-of-the-art manufacturing technology and quality standards. In early 1999, the SB Group acquired the manufacturing assets and technical assistance of a leading tape producer for the electronics industry in Singapore, enhancing its technical and product capabilities to produce specialty products such as sequencer tapes, belting tapes, Kraft liner, carrier tapes, and heat-activated tapes. In the 1990s, SB Group developed an environmentally friendly, 100% odorless, natural emulsion-based adhesive through a 4-year research collaboration with the National Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia, resulting in the world's only environmentally friendly masking tape. In 2011, SB Group invented the world's first biodegradable tapes that break down in active landfills within 3-5 years, reflecting a core value of contributing to a greener world through constant green innovation in product development. Moving forward with a new leadership team spearheaded by the late Mr. Toh Sue Bee’s eldest son, Mr. Toh Chee Hui, the Group set a Vision to be Asia's No.1 OPP Tape Producer by 2015 and World's No.1 OPP Tape Producer by 2020. To achieve this, SB Group embarked on a Corporate Transformation Program (CTP), introduced on May 18th, 2011, to enhance product positioning, manufacturing efficiency, employer-employee relationships, and future business expansion plans. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, SB Group adapted its traditional modus operandi to ensure consistent and smooth operations. Under the leadership of Managing Director Mr. Toh Chee Hui, the company implemented new health and safety policies, including disinfection tunnels, daily sanitization, a dedicated quarantine camp, and a work-from-home policy for office workers, all aimed at achieving greater heights while ensuring employee safety. In January 2022, Ms. Toh Mei Mei was appointed CEO of SB Group, setting a new vision: "To Be No. 1 Excellent Tape Manufacturer" to go beyond the CTP era. SB Group will focus on four Key Result Areas: Product Excellence, Manufacturing Excellence, Customer Experience Excellence, and Green Practices. Today, SB Group is ranked among Asia's leading manufacturers of adhesive tapes. With Kuala Lumpur as its headquarters, the group has established offices and manufacturing facilities in Indonesia and Vietnam, employing over 500 staff across three countries. The annual turnover exceeds RM 500 million, with products exported to 60 countries globally. SB Group's success is attributed to the strong willpower, determination, and hard work of its founder and subsequent leadership team.
