About Save the Children

Who we are Save the Children is the world's largest independent children's rights organization. We work in more than 120 countries for the rights of all children to health and survival, school and education, and protection from violence and exploitation. Save the Children was founded in 1919 and has also been active in Germany since 2004. What we do We are committed to children's rights: We fight for the rights of all children to health and survival, school and education, and protection from violence and exploitation, and protect them from dangers in emergencies and disasters. We involve children in our work: Children are at the center of everything we do. They have a say in our projects and are involved in decision-making processes. We are independent: We help all children, regardless of gender, origin, or religion. We are beholden to no one – except the welfare of children. We are the founders of the international children's rights movement: Our founder Eglantyne Jebb drafted a Declaration of the Rights of the Child back in 1923. This is now part of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and is recognized in almost all countries worldwide. We provide help for self-help: We develop our solutions with the local population, involve village elders and community councils as well as authorities and governments in our work, and thus strengthen sustainable development.
