80 years ago, in 1936, Francesco Vitaloni opened the Rosticceria San Carlo in Via Lecco 18, Milan, named after the nearby San Carlo al Lazzaretto church. The shop soon distinguished itself with a revolutionary specialty, crispy potato chips , which were distributed daily to local bakeries and bars. The production grew from twenty kilos a day to considerable quantities within a few years, and so Mr. Vitaloni moved to Greco in 1940, and the company was named San Carlo ... the potato chips . In 1955, Alberto Vitaloni, the current President, took over from his father and in 1970 founded San Carlo Gruppo Alimentare S.p.A. headquartered in Via Turati. Under his leadership, the company achieved impressive numbers: today, 100 tons of potato chips are produced daily (in addition to a wide range of savory and sweet snacks and baked goods), with 4 plants, 2200 employees, 167 depots, and 1300 salespeople and their vans ensuring a widespread distribution network throughout the country. In 2011, Susanna Vitaloni joined the company as vice president, working alongside her father at the helm of the historic brand. The company looks to the future with great and ambitious goals, reaffirming its position as the undisputed leader and symbol of Italian-made quality and good taste. 2016 marks the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the company's history, a story of passion, tradition, extraordinary intuition, and continuous innovation.
