The Prison Service (SW) is a Polish uniformed and armed formation that carries out tasks related to the execution of prison sentences and temporary arrests. It is subordinate to the Minister of Justice and has its own organizational structure. The Prison Service carries out its tasks on the principles defined in the Code of Criminal Procedure. These include: executing temporary arrests in a manner that ensures the proper course of criminal proceedings protecting society from perpetrators of crimes incarcerated in penal institutions and detention centers ensuring order and security in penal institutions and detention centers conducting resocialization activities towards convicted persons, primarily by organizing work conducive to acquiring professional qualifications, education, and cultural and educational activities ensuring the rights of convicted or temporarily arrested persons, especially humane conditions, respect for dignity, and health and religious care
