The history of economic development in Indonesia, including the economic crisis in 1997, has raised awareness of the strength of the micro, small, medium, and cooperative business sectors and their future potential. This strategic value was then realized by the government by establishing PT. Permodalan Nasional Madani on June 1, 1999, as a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) with a special task to empower Micro, Small, Medium, and Cooperatives (UMKMK). This empowerment task is carried out through the provision of financing and management services, as part of the government's strategy to advance UMKMK, especially contributing to the real sector, to support the growth of new entrepreneurs who have business prospects and can create jobs. PT. Permodalan Nasional Madani, or "PNM", was established as a result of Tap XVI MPR/1998 and based on Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia No.38/1999 dated May 29, 1999, with an authorized capital of Rp1.2 trillion and a paid-up capital of Rp300 billion. A few months later, through the Decree of the Minister of Finance No. 487 KMK 017 dated October 15, 1999, as a follow-up to law No.23 of 1999, PNM was appointed as one of the Coordinating State-Owned Enterprises to distribute and manage 12 program loan schemes. After eleven years of operation, along with the increasing trust of the community and business world in the company, to date, the company remains focused on distributing UMKMK financing to the community, the results of which are enjoyed by more than one million families and 1,500 microfinance institutions across the country.
