About Practimed BV

Practimed BV was founded on June 18, 1965, by 16 general practitioners from Tessenderlo and the surrounding area. After years of collaboration in on-call services and continuing education, they decided to solidify their successful partnership and expand by establishing a medical center in Tessenderlo named Practimed. The new general practice center was built from a shared vision based on three main pillars: • As general practitioners, actively utilize new techniques such as radiology and blood tests • Integrate specialist medicine into the daily practice of general practitioners and bring it closer to people • Put Tessenderlo and its surroundings on the medical map for the benefit of both patients and general practitioners in the region. Meanwhile, the Practimed medical center has grown from a general practice center with 16 doctors, 1 nurse, and 1 lab technician into a stable presence in the medical landscape with locations in Tessenderlo, Bree, and Maasmechelen, employing approximately 170 staff members in total. At the three locations combined, about 100 specialist physicians hold consultations, and collaboration occurs with approximately 350 general practitioners from surrounding regions. All available specialists can be consulted by referral from a general practitioner. Thanks to the establishment of the Practimed medical center, the gap between general practitioners and specialists in practice has been bridged. The general practitioner remains the "linchpin" of primary care as the referring physician; the specialist regains more time and space to focus on their expertise.
