About Play On Philly

Play On, Philly! (POP) seeks to enrich the lives of Philadelphia youth by providing daily after school musical instruction in communities that have little access to music education. Over 200 students participate at Play On, Philly! at two sites: St. Francis de Sales School in West Philadelphia and Freire Charter Middle School in Center City. Students receive daily instrumental group lessons as well as general music, choir and composition. All students participate in both large and small ensembles and master classes with world-class musicians. POP is based on the El Sistema model of education that uses music to develop the academic, cognitive and social skills need for success in life.
