The success story of Pif Paf Alimentos began in 1968 in Rio de Janeiro. Avelino Costa, a naturalized Brazilian from Portugal, bought the Pif Paf slaughterhouse. As the state's largest live chicken wholesaler, Avelino noticed a societal shift and saw a business opportunity. If women newly entering the workforce lacked time for domestic chores, in his view, there was ample opportunity to bring more convenience to those consumers: the live animal should give way to frozen chicken. Today, 50 years later, Pif Paf Alimentos is the largest company in the sector in the State and one of the 7 largest Brazilian companies in the processing of poultry, pork, pasta, and vegetables. With over 8,000 direct employees and 80,000 customers, it supplies the main markets in the Southeast region, southern Bahia, and Goiás. In addition to its corporate headquarters in Belo Horizonte (MG), it has 10 industrial units and 12 production units, producing 20,000 tons of finished products per month. There are 11 distribution centers, 400 aggregated distribution vehicles, and 195,000 deliveries per month with high on-time delivery effectiveness. In total, the company processes 74 million birds and 554,000 pigs per year. Its product mix includes over 300 items, including processed meats, pizzas, lasagnas, cheese breads, and cold cuts. In addition to selling products in Brazil, the company is also present in more than 15 countries. Furthermore, it also supplies raw materials to the industry through its feed mills, breeder farms, and hatcheries. The units are located in the interior of Minas Gerais, in Visconde do Rio Branco, Viçosa, Leopoldina, Patrocínio, Pará de Minas, Pitangui, São José da Varginha, Paula Cândido, Igaratinga. In Goiás, Pif Paf is present in Palmeiras de Goiás and Paraúna (GO). The distribution centers are located in Contagem, Araguari (MG), Jandira (SP), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), and Vila Velha (ES).
