Founded in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio, since 2003 the Piaggio Group has been controlled by Immsi S.p.A., an industrial holding company listed on the Italian stock exchange. The Piaggio Group's product range includes scooters, mopeds, and motorcycles marketed under the Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Derbi, and Scarabeo brands. The Group also operates in the light three- and four-wheeled transport sector. The Piaggio Group is headquartered in Pontedera (Pisa, Italy) and has production plants worldwide: in Pontedera (Pisa), which produces two-wheeled vehicles of the Piaggio, Vespa, and Gilera brands, light transport vehicles for the European market, and engines for scooters and motorcycles; Noale (Venice), a technical center for motorcycle development and the base for Aprilia Racing; Scorzè (Venice), which produces two-wheeled vehicles of the Aprilia and Scarabaeo brands; Mandello del Lario (Lecco, Italy), which produces Moto Guzzi vehicles and engines; Baramati (in the Indian state of Maharashtra), which produces light three- and four-wheeled transport vehicles for the Indian market, diesel and turbodiesel engines for the Group's commercial vehicles, and, since early 2012, the Vespa scooter for sale in the Indian market; Vinh Phuc (Vietnam), which produces Vespa and Piaggio scooters for the local market and the ASEAN region. The Piaggio Group also operates in China through a joint venture. In Latin America, it consolidated its participation as Piaggio Commercial in Mexico through Moto Galeria SA de CV in 2019, achieving a 20% market share within 4 years of operation, driving growth to consolidate its operation on the continent by opening in the United States in 2022, specifically with the Ape Xtra model, and entering the Peruvian market with the Ape City, Ape City NXT +, and Ape Xtra range in 2024.
