Pequena Casa da Criança

About Pequena Casa da Criança

A Pequena Casa da Criança is a non-governmental, non-profit institution dedicated to education, social assistance, and professional training. It is located in the heart of the Vila Maria da Conceição community in Porto Alegre/RS. The institution's mission is to transform lives by promoting the integral development of human beings in all their dimensions: physical, cognitive, emotional, and social. Founded in 1956 by Sister Nely Capuzzo, the entity is currently led by a volunteer board, chaired by Sister Pierina Lorenzoni of the Congregation of Missionaries of Jesus Crucified, whose charism, "going in search of those most in need," is the foundation for the creation and work of Pequena Casa da Criança. With completely free services for the community, the Institution currently serves approximately 1,000 people continuously and provides around 1,500 meals per day. As a form of funding, Pequena Casa da Criança is sustained through partnerships with the public and private sectors, as well as donations from individuals and legal entities.
