Pentación Espectáculos

About Pentación Espectáculos

Pentación Espectáculos is a company founded in 1988 by several theatre professionals: José Luis Alonso de Santos, Gerardo Malla, Rafael Álvarez “El Brujo", Margarita Piñero, Tato Cabal, and Jesús Cimarro. The artistic and management sides were united by the search for a common project. But what is Pentación? Firstly, a privately-run company whose objective is to produce, promote, and distribute theatrical performances. Secondly, Pentación has championed a renewal of theatrical language, themes, and authors. We want theatre that interests today's audience, that deals with "current", contemporary themes and stories. Currently, of the founding partners, Jesús Cimarro remains at the head of the company. 37 years of theatre In 37 years of making theatre, Pentación has staged over 250 productions, including its own productions, executive productions, and distributions. It has won more than 90 awards, including the MAX Award 2005 for best private producer. Mérida Festival Since 2012, the Government of Extremadura has outsourced the management of this annual event to the company Pentación Espectáculos, led by its director, Jesús Cimarro. It was then that the Festival returned to its Greco-Latin essence, achieving a historic reception from audiences and critics. Over the last ten editions, local audiences have been recovered, and attendance from the rest of Spain has been consolidated, making the summer event one of the most important and impactful cultural events of the summer. Theatre Management Since 2005, Pentación has incorporated the management and direction of performance spaces into its areas of activity, starting with the Teatro Bellas Artes; in 2008, with the Teatro La Latina, and in 2020, the Teatro Reina Victoria, all three in Madrid. In addition to signifying company growth, it has led to the enrichment and development of our management and technical teams.
