Founded in São Paulo in 1969, Ortobom began its activities in the metallurgical sector, manufacturing beds, TV stands, etc. Over the years, the company started buying foam blocks for the making of mattresses, which harmoniously matched these beds, aiming to expand its range of activities. In 1975, a factory specialized in mattress manufacturing was opened in Rio de Janeiro, and bed production was discontinued, with the company specializing exclusively in mattress manufacturing. At that time, mattresses were made with shredded cotton, among other materials, and sold wholesale, as the store system did not yet exist. The Ortobom brand name arose from the combination of the word orthopedics (the branch of medicine dealing with the human anatomy) and the word good, giving the idea of a mattress that offers health care in addition to comfort. Due to the great effort invested in long-term strategic planning, Ortobom was able to perfectly take advantage of its business's prosperous phase and transitioned from a processing industry to a base industry, manufacturing its own raw materials for the production of its products.
