The OFII is a public administrative establishment under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior and Overseas Territories. It participates daily in the implementation of the State's policy around the 5 missions entrusted to it: Welcoming and supporting asylum seekers, Managing regular immigration procedures (family, professional) alongside or on behalf of prefectures and consular diplomatic posts, Welcoming and integrating immigrants authorized to reside permanently in France and who have signed a republican integration contract with the State, Aid for the voluntary return and reintegration of foreigners, whose rights have expired and who are in an irregular situation, into their country of origin, Issuing the medical opinion within the framework of the procedure for granting a permit to stay for treatment. 31 territorial directorates, responsible for implementing the OFII's missions within their area of competence, cover the entire national territory. Abroad, the OFII is represented in seven countries by overseas representations.
