Narvesen was established in 1894 when founder Bertrand Narvesen took over the "railway concession" and a small number of counter kiosks in Eastern Norway. Among these was the kiosk at Skien railway station; a small kiosk in the dragestil style that he paid NOK 165.50 for, and which is now located at the Railway Museum in Hamar. At that time, Narvesen only sold newspapers, magazines, cheap books, and picture postcards, and sales in the first year of operation were NOK 28,000. Today, Narvesen is Norway's leading player in kiosk and convenience retail. We have nearly 350 kiosks throughout Norway, with over 150,000 customer visits every day. Narvesen also has 250 outlets in Latvia and over 40 outlets in Lithuania. The Narvesen adventure started with the sale and distribution of reading material, and the chain's main product is still reading material in a broad sense. The Narvesen concept as we know it today is operated by Reitan Convenience. Reitan Convenience currently consists of Narvesen in Norway, Latvia, and Lithuania, Pressbyrån in Sweden, 7-Eleven in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, R-kioski in Finland, R-kiosk in Estonia, and Lietuvos Spauda in Lithuania. Reitan Convenience holds a market-leading position in all its countries. Reitan Convenience has 2,360 outlets and had a turnover of NOK 15.5 billion in 2015.
