About mk2

mk2 is, above all, another idea of cinema. Founded in 1974 by Marin Karmitz, and today led by Nathanaël and Elisha Karmitz, mk2 is a benchmark independent cinema house in Europe. For fifty years, the group has deployed a rare model that connects all aspects of cinema: production, distribution, international sales, exhibition, hospitality, media, and cultural experiences. Driven by three values — selection, otherness, and transmission — the studio supports works at every stage of their life, from films to cinemas, and champions demanding, open cinema that is profoundly audience-focused. A global reference for auteur cinema, the mk2 films division features major works of contemporary cinema (Cold War by Pawel Pawlikowski, The Worst Person in the World and Sick of Myself by Joachim Trier, and Aquarius by Kleber Mendonça Filho) and draws on a catalog of over 1,000 films, distinguished by 7 Palme d'Or awards at the Cannes Film Festival and 15 Oscars. With 23 cinemas in France and Spain, nearly 7 million spectators each year, and over 500 events organized, mk2 cinemas extend the cinema experience through meeting spaces, dining areas, and venues like the mk2 hotel paradiso, the world's first cinema-hotel. This vision also extends to mk2 agency, the group's creative communications agency, which supports brands, institutions, and distributors in designing cultural strategies that generate attention, engagement, and long-term loyalty. The agency structures its offering around three key pillars: experiences, media, and content, leveraging a media hub that includes TROISCOULEURS, mk2 institut, and Letterboxd. Since 2013, mk2 agency has also conceived and produced the Cinéma Paradiso festival. Initially under the nave of the Grand Palais in 2013 and 2015, the festival has held six editions since 2019 in the Cour Carrée of the Louvre Museum.
