MERKUR SPIELBANKEN is part of the MERKUR GROUP (formerly Gauselmann Group). For over 65 years, the company has consistently stood for "The Joy of Gaming" under the MERKUR brand. At the end of 2014, the corporate group opened its first MERKUR SPIELBANK in Leuna-Günthersdorf, Saxony-Anhalt, successively followed by two more locations in Magdeburg and Halle (Saale). Success in this new business area was not long in coming – and motivated further expansion. Since 2016, MERKUR has held a stake in Spielbank Berlin and its four locations. From 2019, stakes were added in the Rhineland-Palatinate casinos in Mainz, Trier, and Bad Ems. Additionally, since 2018, ship casinos have been operated on international cruise ships of the TUI fleet. A pioneering highlight followed in 2021 when MERKUR SPIELBANKEN was awarded the contract in the privatization process for the North Rhine-Westphalian casinos with locations in Aachen, Bad Oeynhausen, Dortmund-Hohensyburg, and Duisburg. In this context, a fifth MERKUR SPIELBANK was opened in Monheim am Rhein in 2023. A sixth facility is currently under construction in Siegburg. This impressive success story gained another chapter in mid-2025: As of July 1, 2025, MERKUR SPIELBANKEN took over the ten existing casino locations in Lower Saxony: Bad Bentheim, Bad Pyrmont, Bad Zwischenahn, Braunschweig, Göttingen, Hannover, Norderney, Osnabrück, Seevetal, and Wolfsburg. In total, this means 18 MERKUR SPIELBANKEN are currently operated in Germany, along with three ship casinos, embodying experience, responsibility, and the clear mission – top-tier gaming entertainment.
