Mercadinhos São Luiz

About Mercadinhos São Luiz

It all started in 1926 when businessman Luiz Melo founded a small wholesale store, Casa São Luiz. In 1967, with the death of Mr. Luiz, his son João Batista, who already worked in the company, was tasked with managing the business inherited from his father. Mr. João, as he became known by his employees, soon began to remodel the company's standards. Thus, in 1972, he entered the retail business and inaugurated the first branch of Mercadinhos São Luiz, on Avenida Santos Dumont, in Fortaleza. He was a distinguished leader and believed that the company's success depended, before anything else, on the happiness of its customers, partners, and especially "his people", the employees. Time showed that his formula was correct. What began as a small store grew in popularity and, consequently, in quality, quantity, and size. With a lot of hard work and dedication from his team, São Luiz opened new branches and became, starting in the 80s, one of the largest supermarket companies in Ceará, a position it holds to this day.
