About Marille

The Marille will be a model school for future-oriented education and is set to open its doors in Berlin in the 2025/26 school year as a state-approved alternative school. The school will initially accommodate 30 first-graders and will be expanded into an inclusive community school with 13 grade levels, where all German school-leaving qualifications can be obtained. As an inclusive school, the Marille is a suitable learning environment for everyone. At the Marille, students develop an active and positive attitude towards learning ("Learning-Vibe"). Students put together personalized timetables using a digital program and receive targeted support through various formats and structures, such as a mentoring program. Social learning takes place in fixed home groups. There are no grades at the Marille, except when required by state regulations, for school transfers, or if requested by students. The learning content focuses on the acquisition of subject knowledge and skills, meta-learning, social competencies, and identity. It is reality-based and aligned with the interests of the students and the instructor, but also covers the content of the Berlin framework curricula and the Marille's internal curriculum. Learning content could include, for example, building a pizza oven or organizing a panel discussion with local politicians. The Marille's leadership team consists of four adults and four students, operates transparently, and makes decisions by consensus. The Marille sees itself as an institution that is constantly evolving. The Marille is creating a new place for future-oriented, innovative, and humane education. It provides impetus for the existing school landscape and leads into a future where the school is a safe place for everyone involved, where they can learn sustainably, experience community, and take responsibility.
