About Kvickly

Kvickly opened its first store on November 9, 1961, in Aalborg – as a completely new store type with both non-food and groceries. The inspiration came from FDB study trips to the USA and Sweden, among other places, from which the name also originates. In these countries, they were far ahead at the time with the interior design and operation of such "double supermarkets". For the first many years, the individual Kvickly stores were run by the local consumer cooperative, and it was the individual consumer cooperative board that was responsible. It wasn't until the 1970s that chains were formed in FDB, and thus Kvickly emerged as a store chain, with a chain office at what is now Coop's headquarters in Albertslund. Over time, Kvickly has merged with other store chains such as HB Comus and Obs!, and today comprises 65 stores distributed throughout Denmark.
