The purpose of the Prison and Probation Service is to help reduce crime in Denmark. This is a purpose we share with the police, the prosecution service, and the courts. Within this collaboration, the main task of the Prison and Probation Service is to ensure that the sentences imposed by the justice system on the country's criminals are carried out. To fulfill this purpose, the Prison and Probation Service focuses on two elements in the solution of its main task: Control and security. The Prison and Probation Service must carry out the control necessary to execute the sentence. Support and motivation. The Prison and Probation Service must motivate the convicted person to live a life without crime. When we perform our task, we do so based on the Prison and Probation Service's vision and values: Prison and Probation Service vision: We bring people safely forward to a life without crime. In the Prison and Probation Service, we carry out our tasks in close cooperation with the outside world in a flexible and efficient manner that is safe and proper for the individual, with the aim of reducing recidivism and creating safety in society. Prison and Probation Service values: the art of balancing between the hard and the soft. The value contains the two parallel components of the Prison and Probation Service's main task: On the one hand, consideration for control and security, on the other hand, support and motivation.
