Kotka is the second largest city in Kymenlaakso and is located on the coast of the Gulf of Finland, in the delta of the Kymijoki River. The city is known for, among other things, Finland's largest general port, industry, beautiful parks, and the Maritime Festival. Kotka is also a diverse city of education and culture. Kotka offers a wonderful, urban living environment with activities, spacious and high-quality housing at a reasonable price. The location is along major routes: E18 motorway, national road 15, the Gulf of Finland, and the Kymijoki River. You can drive to the Helsinki metropolitan area in just over an hour. We are investing significantly in new schools and services for families and residents in the coming years. Kotka residents consider the quality of the city's early childhood education to be excellent. A new campus for the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences XAMK will be completed in the city center, Kantasatama, in 2024. In autumn 2023, the event center Satama Areena opened.
