The Klinik Sonnenhof – Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Center (KJPZ) – is a specialist-led child and adolescent psychiatric center. As a provider clinic in the field of inpatient child and adolescent psychiatry for the canton of St. Gallen, it has service agreements with the cantons of Zurich, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, Glarus, and Appenzell Ausserrhoden. As of July 1, 2026, Klinik Sonnenhof KJPZ and KJPD St. Gallen will jointly form the Foundation for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry St. Gallen (KJPSG). This merger will allow teams to collaborate more closely and coordinate services even better. This creates a foundation to continue reliably supporting children and adolescents with psychological distress – on an outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization basis. The Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services (KJPD) St. Gallen are responsible for the outpatient and partial hospitalization psychiatric treatment of children, adolescents, and their families in the cantons of St. Gallen, Appenzell Innerrhoden, and Ausserrhoden. The KJPZ is the first point of contact and primary treatment facility in the canton of St. Gallen for children and adolescents with all kinds of psychiatric problems that require inpatient treatment. We also admit patients from other cantons. In the inpatient setting, short, medium, and also longer-term diagnostic and treatment stays are realized. The clinic takes on those urgent crisis interventions associated with risks to the patient or others, which must be managed and treated in an inpatient psychiatric setting. The decisive and primary question is whether the psychiatric clinic is the most suitable facility for the necessary intervention. Our patients live in small groups. The treatment places are distributed across three wards, each with two groups. The six groups are mixed-gender and are occupied based on age or diagnosis.
