About Jonak

Far beyond mere shoes, Jonak is above all the story of freedom, the playground of creation, and the love of transmission. This story begins in 1964, in Paris, on rue Saint-Placide, when Marcel and Josette Nakam opened their first shoe store. Even then, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, there was a vision: that of work well done, of good taste, and of sincerity. Alongside Marcel was his wife Josette, distinguished by her elegance and strength, and his son Joseph, who did not yet know that he would build, stone by stone and as if by evidence, one of the great names in French footwear. By forming the name "Jonak," a fusion of their first names and the Nakam surname, Marcel sealed the destiny: Jonak is and will remain a family adventure. Upon his father's death, Joseph took over. He was visionary and discreet, creative and rigorous, avant-garde and realistic. For Jonak, he imagined a philosophy halfway between the quality of the craft, thoughtful simplicity, inspired creation, and a fair price. Small victories followed one after another, and the brand took off in the 1990s with the opening of about thirty stores, including the flagship at 70 rue de Rennes. In 2012, Marcel and Lisa, two of Joseph's four children, decided to join the ship alongside their father. With them came the digital transformation and the desire to infuse Jonak with the contemporaneity that had always shaped it. Respect for craftsmanship was combined with cutting-edge collaborations, the experiential concept of the stores was affirmed and extended both online and internationally. Today, the founder's grandchildren continue to enrich and structure the DNA that characterizes Jonak. Marked by humanity and transparency, the brand continues to keep its initial promise: an ode to aesthetic lines, unique codes, and a close-knit group united around its family, its employees, and its workshops.
