Jirau Energia is the world's largest hydroelectric plant by number of turbines and the 4th largest electricity generator in the country. The company has consolidated its position by achieving the best availability index among large-scale hydroelectric plants in the country, optimizing the use of the Madeira River's waters. With an impressive capacity of 3,750 MW, enough to supply over 40 million people, UHE Jirau is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Amazon and in the world. Equipped with 50 bulb-type turbines, it is the largest in the world by number of turbines, featuring the most powerful in unit generation, with 75 MW. Guided by values such as ethics, teamwork, integrity, commitment, and austerity, Jirau Energia operates within the principles of sustainable development, valuing human resources, and conserving natural and historical-cultural resources. In 2023, the company celebrated a decade of commercial operation, reaching the significant milestone of over 130 million MWh of energy generated. This achievement, registered with the UN's Clean Development Mechanism, contributed to the annual reduction of six million tons of carbon, strengthening sustainable development in the Amazon region. Jirau Energia is a Special Purpose Entity (SPE), with major shareholders such as ENGIE (40%), Eletrobras Eletrosul (20%), Eletrobras Chesf (20%), and Mizha Participações S.A. (20%), a subsidiary of Mitsui & CO., LTD. The company's trajectory began in 2008, when it won Federal Government's Auction 005/2008, obtaining the concession for the implementation and operation of the Jirau Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Madeira River (Porto Velho, RO) and the exploitation of its energy potential for a period of 35 years.
