In 1999, the Zona Hospital became part of the Italcliniche Group, which redesigned its accredited structure by introducing new disciplines such as pediatrics to meet local needs, and also giving it a special focus on emergency care. The new millennium marked the hospital's rebirth, receiving accreditation for high specializations such as Neurosurgery, Cardiology with Hemodynamics, Vascular Surgery, and Intensive Care/CCU. The helipad was upgraded for night flights, and the hospital's focus on emergency care was recognized in 2010 when it became a Level 1 DEA (Emergency Department). In addition to being a reference point for high-complexity rehabilitation for Parkinson's, the neuro-rehabilitation project for patients with severe, non-stabilized brain injuries was launched in collaboration with the University Clinic of Innsbruck, directed by Prof. Leopold Saltuari. The initiation of this project found the Hospital of Gravedona ed Uniti to be the optimal location precisely because of its focus on emergency care, as this rehabilitation requires intervention on severely brain-injured patients in a non-stabilized phase, within days of the traumatic event. 2013 is the year of a new challenge, that of high-complexity specialized rehabilitation.
