Institution de Gestion sociale des Armées – Social operator for the Ministry of Defense. The Institution de Gestion sociale des Armées was created by law 66-458 of July 2, 1966, with the aim of grouping all existing social reception centers under a single legal entity and centralizing the management of social works for more effective and faster intervention. IGeSA's mission is to manage the social and medico-social establishments of the Ministry of Defense. It also carries out social and medico-social activities entrusted to it by the ministry. As a national public institution with legal personality and financial autonomy, it was placed under the authority of the Ministry of Defense. IGeSA was a sui generis national public institution, meaning it was neither administrative nor industrial and commercial. This particularity gave IGeSA management flexibility while guaranteeing state control over the proper functioning of the institution. Thus, while IGeSA was subject to private law rules with its contractors, its staff, and third parties, as well as in its accounting and financial management, it carried out a mission of public utility and was subject from the outset to the control of ministerial authorities and the Court of Auditors. Subsequently, the law of December 12, 2005, classified the Institution de Gestion sociale des Armées as an industrial and commercial public institution, while reaffirming the non-profit nature of its activities. Its status is currently codified in Articles L 3422-1 to L 3422-23 and R 3422-1 to R 3422-23 of the Defense Code.
